Midgard
The Overworld: realm of open skies, villages, forests, oceans, and ordinary mortal life. Players who first awaken here are known as Overworlders.
Realm of the LivingSome players of ValhallaMC awaken beneath the sky of Midgard. Others begin in fire. The Helvegr are players who choose the optional Nether Spawn challenge: they awaken in Helheim, survive its rites, escape to the Overworld by their own efforts, and remain bound by the Gates of Helheim as the server progresses.
The Helvegr challenge exists to give experienced players a harsher opening while allowing Overworlders to discover major parts of a fresh world first. The challenge is woven into the mythology of ValhallaMC rather than treated as a separate ruleset.
The Overworld: realm of open skies, villages, forests, oceans, and ordinary mortal life. Players who first awaken here are known as Overworlders.
Realm of the LivingThe Nether: realm of fire, blackstone, crimson forests, and hostile wastes. Players chosen for the challenge awaken here and are called Helvegr — those who walk Hel's Way.
Hel's WayThe End: the ancient void where the Dragon resides. It is the third great realm of ValhallaMC and remains closed to the Helvegr until the people of Midgard first break the way open.
Realm of the DragonOverworlders determine when ValhallaMC enters the next stage of progression. Their great accomplishments break the Minor Gates of Helheim, opening new trials to the Helvegr.
Helvegr may be experienced players, but Hel's Way does not allow them to rush ahead of Midgard. Once an Overworlder opens a path, each Helvegr must still prove themselves by breaking certain Major Gates personally.
The Helvegr are intentionally held behind the progress of the Overworlders. This gives newer or less experienced players the chance to explore an untouched world, discover major milestones, and push the server into new ages themselves.
A Helvegr does not earn the right to leave Helheim merely by finding enough obsidian. Before crossing into Midgard for the first time, they must live in the Nether, explore it, master its dangers, and complete the rites below.
Before escaping, a Helvegr may explore Bastions and Nether Fortresses, but may not loot containers, break blocks, or place blocks within them. Their treasures and structures must remain untouched until the first escape is complete.
No Looting • No Breaking • No PlacingA Helvegr must spend real time living in the Nether and construct a proper Nether home before escaping. A hole in a wall or temporary box does not count. The home should be a genuine base with shelter, storage, and the feeling of a place actually lived in.
Helheim Must Become HomeBefore leaving Helheim, the Helvegr must possess and fully charge a Respawn Anchor. Their life must first be bound securely to Helheim before they are permitted to walk beneath the skies of Midgard.
Fully Charged Respawn AnchorThe Helvegr must travel through every Nether biome before escaping. Hel's Way is not walked by hiding in one corner of the realm; the Helvegr must witness the many faces of Helheim for themselves.
Explore All Nether BiomesThe Helvegr must earn the advancement Return to Sender by killing a Ghast with one of its own reflected fireballs.
Return to SenderThe Helvegr must earn Into Fire, proving that they have confronted a Blaze and claimed a Blaze Rod before their escape from Helheim.
Into FireBefore leaving, the Helvegr must earn Local Brewery. Surviving Helheim is not only a test of violence, but of learning to use the strange resources of the realm.
Local BreweryThe Helvegr must earn Spooky Scary Skeleton before escaping, proving that they have faced one of Helheim's Wither Skeletons and survived with its skull as a trophy.
Spooky Scary SkeletonThe final rite is the strangest. The Helvegr must bring a Ghast through their own portal into Midgard and kill it on the other side, earning Uneasy Alliance. The Helvegr may cross the portal as part of completing this rite, but this crossing marks the final act of the escape.
Uneasy AllianceOnly after the other rites are satisfied may the Helvegr truly leave Helheim. Their portal is not simply transportation: it is the end of their first saga and the moment they step from Helheim into the world opened by the Overworlders.
Escape HelheimOnly players added to the Nether Spawn list are affected. Everyone else uses normal vanilla spawning and respawning. The mod handles spawning; the Rites and Gates are honour rules followed by the players.
A server operator adds your Minecraft account to the Nether Spawn list. In lore, this marks you as Helvegr. The mod tracks selected players by UUID, so changing your username does not remove you from the challenge.
The first time you join after being selected, you spawn at the server's configured Nether Spawn location instead of appearing in the Overworld.
Your opening goal is not merely to build a portal. You must establish a home, explore Helheim, complete the required advancements, prepare a fully charged Respawn Anchor, and complete Uneasy Alliance before your escape is considered valid.
Until you establish a valid respawn point, dying sends you back to the configured Nether Spawn location.
A charged Respawn Anchor can be used as your Nether respawn point. While the anchor remains valid, the mod respects it instead of sending you to the default Nether Spawn.
After completing the Rites and reaching Midgard, sleeping in a bed establishes a normal Overworld respawn point. You can then respawn there like any other player.
If your Overworld bed is destroyed, obstructed, or otherwise no longer valid, your fallback spawn becomes the configured Nether Spawn again.
These commands are intended for server operators. Regular players do not need to run commands to participate.
/netherspawn add <player>
Adds a player to the Nether Spawn list. The player will be governed by the Nether Spawn respawn rules.
/netherspawn remove <player>
Removes a player from the challenge and restores normal vanilla spawning behaviour for that player.
/netherspawn list
Displays the players currently registered for the Nether Spawn challenge.
/netherspawn set
Sets the shared Nether Spawn location to the command sender's current position in the Nether.
/netherspawn send <player>
Immediately sends the selected player to the configured Nether Spawn location. This is useful when beginning a new challenge or correcting a spawn.
Escaping Helheim ends the opening challenge, but it does not free a Helvegr from Hel's Way. From that point onward, their progression is tied to the achievements of the Overworlders.
Opened by: the first Overworlder to earn Free the End. Until an Overworlder has slain the Ender Dragon, Helvegr may not enter Ginnungagap or participate in the Dragon fight. Once an Overworlder kills the Dragon, the End is opened to the Helvegr.
Opened by: three different Overworlders earning Super Sonic. Until that happens, Helvegr may not possess or use an Elytra. The skies of Ginnungagap remain the reward of Midgard until three of its people have proven themselves without those wings.
Opened by: the first Overworlder to earn The Beginning. Until an Overworlder has slain the Wither, Helvegr may not summon one. Once Midgard has defeated the Wither, Helvegr may attempt the same trial themselves.
Breaking a Minor Gate only opens the road. A Helvegr is still bound by Hel's Way until they personally complete the trial tied to that Major Gate.
A Helvegr must personally earn Free the End before diamond gear is theirs by right.
A Helvegr must personally earn The Beginning before Helheim recognizes them as fully entitled to the commerce and industry of Midgard.
A Helvegr must personally earn Super Sonic with no assistance. before they are released from the final chains that bind them to Hel's Way.
Message MrOzoskiniki to become Helvegr. Once added, prepare to awaken in Helheim, build a life in the Nether, complete the Rites of Escape, and eventually walk the path opened by the Overworlders.
